OBITUARY: Newspaper - The Chronotype, Council Bluffs, Iowa., Wednesday Dec. 23, 1855 "Frozen to Death".
We are shocked to hear that Lyman Barrett of this county, was frozen to death while on an elk hunt, in Monona County on the night of the 8th inst. His body was found the next day partially devoured by the wolves.
His gun has not yet been found. We heard also that two persons perished from cold and starvation a short distance from Souix City, about the same time. They were lost on the prairies for 14 days during which they had suffered terribly. One of them died a few hours after reaching the settlement and the other perished about 5 miles distant. In addition to the above it is also feared that a man whose name we have not heard and was hunting with Mr.Barrett has also perished as he has not since been heard from.
