31 March 1852 (firm) Father Ole, mother Guri (Julia), son Ole and daughter Kjersti left sub parish Reinli under Sor-Aurdal parish in Oppland County and traveled south to Christiania (Oslo), Norway. The distance to Christiania (Olso) is about 90 miles. It is possible that they pulled a cart or had a cow pulling the cart and Ole and Guri (Julia) walked. They maybe covered 5 miles a day.

20 August 1852 (firm) About 2:30 a.m. there was a collision with the propeller ship Ogdensburg and the ship Atlantic sank. Their child Kjersti might have drowned. About 300 of the 576 passengers drowned. 68 Norwegians parished. Ole's brother Bjorn and entire family perished.

20 August 1852 About 250 passengers were rescued by the ship Ogdensburg. The survivors were then transferred to another steamship that brought them to Detroit, Michigan.

Left Madison by rail on 5 Mar 1865, bound for Louisville, Kentucky. Left Louisville for Camp Athens, Alabama, arriving there on 24 Apr 1865. This regiment served guard duty along the Nashville & Decatur railroad for about five months. Mustered out with his company on 27 Sep 1865 at Nashville, Tennessee.
