Obtain class schedules at the Help Desk and attend one or more genealogy free classes and $10 to $20 courses for beginners.
When Returning Home
Very important work is done outside the library by conducting your own home survey of information. This should actually be done before coming to the LAFHL or any library.
Ask all family household members for information, records, newspaper articles, certificates, scrapbooks, journals, photo albums, memorabilia. Make a very careful search for all records in your home that might have additional facts.
Call all your relatives. Ask who had stories, records, and photos. Ask each one if there is anyone else that you can contact.
Send a self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE) with each letter you send out. Ask that they send copies all genealogy informaion they have and send them copies of your pedigree chart and family group sheets and ask them to correct and fills them in with the information they have. Offer to pay for copying costs if necessary.
Return to LAFHL to continue your research and attend genealogy free classes and $10 to $20 courses.
Ask for help at the Help Desk when having problems.
