During Today's Visit

Pick up your free blue bordered pedigree chart at the Information Counter. Fill out the chart to the best of your ability.

Fill out a family group sheet for each family to the best of your ability. They are available free in the Sales Area.

Review the Red 3-Ring Self-Help Notebook GENEALOGY-STARTING located in the special collection of red 3-ring self-help notebooks next to the entrance to the Microfilm Room.

Pick up your free beginning genealogy hand outs at the end of the Information Counter.

Obtain a class schedule at the end of the Information Counter and attend one or more free classes for beginners.

When Returning Home

The most important work is done outside the Center by conducting your own home survey of information. This should actually be done before going to this Center or any library.

Ask all family household members for information, records, newspaper articles, certificates, scrapbooks, journals, photo albums, memorabilia. Make a very careful search for all records in your home that might have additional facts.

Call all your relatives. Ask who had stories, records, and photos. Keep calling and asking.

Send a self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE) with each letter you send and offer to pay for copying costs if necessary.

Return to this Center to continue your research and attend free classes.

Ask for help when having problems.
